Growth By Acquisition
Growth through acquisition (strategic acquisition) is quicker, cheaper, and far less risky than the more traditional methods of growing a company. Large companies know this; they buy companies all the time. Though it doesn't make headlines, smaller companies can and do grow by acquisition as well.
We have been helping small and medium size companies successfully grow through acquisition for many years. We recently wrote Strategic Acquisitions: A Smarter Way to Grow a Small or Medium Size Company (available from Amazon.com). Click here to see the table of contents of this book.
We can help with all the steps involved in growing your company via strategic acquisition.
- Examining the feasibility of a growth through acquisition strategy
- Preparing a viable strategic acquisition plan

Gray Area Business Sellers
At any given time, a few businesses are actively on the market. While you might find a couple good acquisition candidates from the pool of businesses that are listed for sale, the odds of doing so are not great. What's more, once a desirable business is actively advertised for sale, it will attract several qualified buyers leading to significant competition among the suitors.
However, there are a lot of business owners that aren't actively looking to sell but would consider selling under the right circumstances. We call these the gray area business sellers. It is among these gray area business sellers where we believe the best strategic acquisition opportunities lie.
Finding these gray area business sellers is not easy. However, we have a great deal of experience and expertise in finding and arranging the purchase of businesses that aren't officially for sale. In fact, we have developed some very successful methods to find these gray area sellers. Our book on strategic acquisition (mentioned above) includes a section on finding and buying companies that we define as gray area sellers. To see an excerpt of that section from the book, click here.
